TCWC Visits the Community Storehouse in Roanoke

In November, the Allocations and Grants Committee visited the Community Storehouse in Roanoke. Our very passionate host was Sharon Boyd who shared lots of heart-warming stories with us. Since their beginnings in 1982, Community Storehouse has expanded their services to include Keller and Northwest ISD helping thousands of clients every year. They provide transitional assistance, for example, with food stamps, utility and medical bills. The supplemental lunch programs for kids during vacation time are very popular, as is the annual Camp Community Storehouse for children below reading and poverty level. The Keller facility offers a resale store and a food pantry and is always glad to take donations. For more information, check out their website on www.communitystorehouse.org.

TCWC Visits Rocky Top Therapy Center in Keller

In September, several TCWC ladies visited Rocky Top Therapy Center in Keller. Pat Fleming, Executive Director, and Linda Engle, Director of Volunteer Services, were our lovely hosts. Rocky Top serves patients with mental and physical disabilities who benefit from various horseback riding programs. For more information, also on volunteer opportunities, please visit their website at www.rockytoptherapy.org.

TCWC Our first trip to the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas was a wonderful experience!

Six TCWC members teamed up with 4 other volunteers and went to work, bagging food & drinks for the new "Kids Backpack Program".  These bags are placed in the children's backpacks on Friday afternoon to supplement their meals over the weekend.  All donations to this program are used locally at Trophy Club elementary schools.

Our team bagged 99 boxes, totalling 693 bags = 2,390 pounds = 1,867 meals!  And of course, after handling all that food, we were ready to go out for lunch!

TCWC made our second trip to the North Texas Food Bank in Dallas!

Fifteen TCWC members teamed up with 8 Wal-Mart volunteers and went to work boxing food for senior citizens.  Our efforts produced 480 boxes = 14,000 pounds of food = 10,937 meals!  And our volunteer hours at NTFB are converted to food credit for the Roanoke Food Pantry.  We hope to make this a monthly opportunity for our members!

We had a great time volunteering again at the NTX Food Bank and look forward to our next trip.

Let's come together to make a difference in Closing the Gap on hunger in North Texas AND support our local Food Pantry at the same time!

This is a wonderful opportunity to support the Roanoke Food Pantry by volunteering at NTFB.  Our volunteer hours will provide a food credit to our local Food Pantry.

We spend the morning (9:00am to noon) stocking boxes with specific food items and then go to lunch!
Carpool from Blockbuster - leaving at 7:45am sharp!   (50 minute drive in good traffic; 1 hour/15 min in heavier traffic)
*  Several good options for lunch on the way Home -- group will decide
*  Should be back in Trophy Club by 2:00 - 2:30pm
Closed toe shoes are required for safety - no exceptions.
*  Suggest we bring water to drink while stocking boxes.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in joining us!   They need a group count one week beforehand.  This is fun and very rewarding.  See their website for more information www.ntfb.org/au_map.cfm
